Counterintelligence has uncovered and eliminated an extensive, ramified network of foreign special services that, with the assistance of certain individuals, operated on the territory of Belarus and engaged in wiretapping pilots of civil and military aviation. The Chairman of the State Security Committee announced this to journalists following his report to Lukashenka, writes BelTA.
As the KGB Chairman reported, this year counterintelligence discovered and eliminated an extensive, ramified network of foreign special services that, with the participation of certain individuals, operated on the territory of Belarus. This involved the installation of technical means that allowed the interception of conversations between pilots of both civil and military aviation. Monitoring was also conducted around restricted facilities. "The extensive and large-scale work of counterintelligence allowed these threats to be eliminated," Ivan Tsertsel emphasized.
Speaking about the overall work of the KGB's counterintelligence, Ivan Tsertsel noted a serious intensification of intelligence and subversive activities against Belarus. "For example, almost daily, satellite groups of Western states, special services, and armed forces monitor the situation on our territory, taking photographs and videos," he said. He stressed that the analysis covers not only the operations of railway transport, logistics, or defense facilities, but also ordinary enterprises — such as MAZ and BELAZ.
"Radio-technical and radio-electronic intelligence is being conducted very actively. In fact, we are under an electronic cap. The head of state, during the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, pointed out the fact of telephone wiretapping and penetration into certain information and communication networks by foreign special services. This is indeed true. These issues have been exposed, and we are dealing with them," Ivan Tsertsel stated.
The head of the KGB assured that Lukashenka keeps his finger on the pulse and sets appropriate tasks for the State Security Committee. "Work is underway to prevent terrorist acts. For now, we see a large transit of terrorism through our territory. It exists, it is large-scale. We stop these attempts, we work, but we do not relax, because we understand that in case of any change in the situation, these channels could be used on the territory of Belarus," he summarized.
