Nine infants died in the maternity hospital of Russian Novokuznetsk during the New Year holidays
The tragedy occurred in the Russian Novokuznetsk City Hospital No. 1 (Russia), where nine newborns died during the New Year holidays. This information was officially confirmed by Andrey Tarasov, the Minister of Health of Kuzbass.

According to the minister, a Ministry of Health commission is currently working in the medical institution to assess the causes and prevent further fatalities. The exact causes of the children's deaths have not yet been disclosed, and the results of the investigation are promised to be announced only after its completion.
Against the backdrop of the scandal and numerous complaints, the Investigative Committee for the Kemerovo region opened a criminal case under Part 3, Article 109 of the Russian Criminal Code (causing death by negligence to two or more persons).
By decision of the regional governor, the chief physician of the hospital, Vitaly Kheraskov, has been temporarily suspended from his post.
On Tuesday, January 13, it became known that the maternity hospital had completely suspended the admission of new patients. The official reason for the suspension was cited as "exceeding the threshold of respiratory infection incidence in the obstetric inpatient facility." Relatives of the deceased children suspect that the true cause could have been an nosocomial infection or serious negligence by the staff during the holidays.
