Ihar Shunevich, Chairman of the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen, called the first lynx hunting season in many years a failure. Out of 57 animals allowed for hunting, only six individuals were killed last season, or about 10.5%.

Shunevich noted that the situation with lynx is "ambiguous" and the complete failure of the season is due to the fact that only stalking and ambush hunting methods were allowed, without driven hunts.
During this season, the killed animals rather became "incidental catch" as Belarusian hunters lack the appropriate experience and opportunities for hunting with dogs.
He also emphasized that all environmentalists' concerns regarding the impact of hunting on the population were an exaggeration: in fact, lynx hunting did not become a "phenomenon of national hunting".
The lynx hunting season lasted from October 31, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Permission for hunting was granted by Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 233 of April 23, 2025, and the protected status of the lynx was lowered by Resolution of the Ministry of Natural Resources No. 10 of March 14, 2025.
Hunting is allowed in Vitebsk, Gomel, and Minsk regions. A permit to hunt lynx costs 200 rubles for citizens of Belarus and EAEU countries, and 500 rubles for citizens of other states.
It was previously reported that the first hunting season for another Red Book animal, the bear, was, on the contrary, very successful: out of 40 allocated animals, 39 were killed.
