"They found a scapegoat" — social media reacted to the dismissal of the head of "Minsktrans"

News about the dismissal of Oleg Dyubenko, the General Director of "Minsktrans", sparked a lively discussion on social networks. Contrary to expectations, the news did not evoke schadenfreude: according to most commentators, he was a competent leader with the best human qualities, who was simply made responsible for general problems. However, few recalled that it was Dyubenko, as the head of "Minsktrans", who demanded hundreds of thousands of rubles in courts from peaceful demonstrators in 2020.

Oleg Dyubenko is not a new face in the "Minsktrans" system. He began his career as a master in a trolleybus depot. He then worked as an engineer, rose to the position of chief engineer, and later headed the enterprise as general director.

The specific reason for his dismissal has not been officially reported. However, widespread failures in the capital's public transport system this winter are among the most likely versions. This news is widely discussed on TikTok, and users doubt the fairness of such a decision.

"So what part did he play in the icing of wires and uncleaned roads?" — asks one user.

Most people tend to think that the director was treated unfairly, being made responsible for the city's systemic problems. Users note both Dyubenko's professionalism and his positive human qualities:

"I believe they didn't sort it out, but just found a scapegoat."

"Fired for nothing, they just found a scapegoat, a good person, in all respects, I know him personally, for about 40 years, it's very sad, very."

"They found a scapegoat, as always."

This opinion is supported by many others, especially those who worked directly under his leadership:

"A good manager. I worked for him in the 1st trolleybus depot."

"It's a great pity that a true transport worker, who knows all passenger transport from the inside, was made the scapegoat. I've known him as an excellent and principled leader since 2002!"

"I know him personally too. A good leader."

"Good manager! Very sorry."

"Very sorry! An excellent leader and person!"

"Too bad, a good guy, that's why they removed him... They'll put some military man in charge."

However, there are also those who disagree with the general sympathy. Some commentators point to internal problems of the enterprise and low wages:

"I would like to see the opinion of the drivers here, they usually don't ask us, but what did Dyubenko lead to: widespread dismissals, unbearable conditions, ridiculous wages!"

Counterarguments are found for such claims. People compare the situation with previous management and defend the ex-director:

"But were wages better under Papenko?! Don't sin! It got much better with Dyubenko, he treated people humanely, not like cattle. If you want 4500 wages – work without days off! And for your 3000 – work according to schedule. Under Papenko, wages were at most from 1000 to 2300."

Another group of dissatisfied people are passengers who evaluate the director's work based on the actual state of transport. They believe that personal qualities should not justify professional failures:

"A good person is not a profession, transport (trolleybuses T7, T9, T36, which I use) runs terribly, constantly, meaning often there's a [transport delay] on the display, intervals are long."

"Maybe he's a good person, but he didn't cope with the job. Transport runs horribly. You can't get to or from work."

Workers from the depots themselves join the criticism, describing the deplorable technical condition of the enterprise:

"I myself work in an bus depot. 'Minsktrans' completely and utterly failed this winter. All depots are on their knees, vehicles were not prepared for winter, necessary spare parts were not stocked for winter, the repair zone works terribly. So the outcome is natural."

In response to criticism, defenders explain that the root of the problems lies not in management, but in the lack of normal funding and worn-out infrastructure:

"To everyone for whom transport runs poorly, come to us at 'Minsktrans'. (...) Try our bread. The trolleybus line has long needed changing, tram tracks have become unusable, but where to get the money? It's a pity for Anatolyevich."

"Give way to the young, we have enough personnel,"

confidently declares one user.
