In the night of February 8, the "Luch" combined heat and power plant in Russian Belgorod was attacked. This caused a blackout. And when attempts were made to connect the networks, numerous pipe ruptures and repeated short circuits began. 80 thousand residents of Belgorod were left without heating.

Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov admitted that it is not possible to fully restore energy in the region.
"The actions that our energy and heat specialists have been taking over the past two days have not yet led to the long-awaited result. We have restored gas supply, we still need to connect 500 consumers to electricity in their homes, we have solved problems with cold water supply and sewage, but we have a problem with heating," he writes in his Telegram channel.
Because of this, in 455 apartment buildings, 25 kindergartens, 17 schools, 9 polyclinics, and 4 universities, water began to be drained from the heating system.
"Restoration work, as I have already said, continues. As they are completed, if we see that our CHP plant will be ready to supply heat, we will fill the heating system and supply the coolant to residential buildings, social facilities, and commercial enterprises. If we do not do this, the damage or harm will be practically catastrophic for every resident living in this part of the city," Gladkov writes.
Heating points in the region have been switched to round-the-clock operation. The evacuation of children to other regions has begun.
"Dear friends, if you are ready to leave your children with us, then we take responsibility for their stay — you need to call the Belgorod city administration or your kindergarten head, where your children attend, leave your contacts, and we will start doing this work from today. If your children are of school age: you leave your applications, as in 2024-2025, in the Belgorod city administration, and we send children to other regions — to those places that are already familiar, such as the Republic of Crimea, and to neighboring regions — we are currently discussing with the governors," Gladkov reported.
