In Minsk, a thief was going to sell a stolen phone advertised online, but met its owner on the bus
A story worthy of a crime comedy plot happened in Minsk. A 28-year-old serial thief stole an expensive phone from a new acquaintance, but didn't manage to get the money, as he accidentally boarded the same public transport as the victim.
It all started when the men met at a police station. They were both detained for different reasons — what exactly, is not reported.
They quickly found common ground. When they were released, the men decided to celebrate their freedom and went to visit one of them.
There, the guest noticed a box from a brand new smartphone and immediately came up with a plan: first, he stole the box, and when they went to the store together, he asked the owner for the phone itself, allegedly "just for a minute to make a call."
The smartphone cost 1750 rubles. The owner gave him the gadget and went into the store, while his new friend simply left, throwing away the SIM card along the way.
Later, the man listed the stolen phone on a popular online marketplace. A buyer was quickly found, and they arranged a meeting.
The seller got on a bus and was heading to the deal, when suddenly someone called him out in the cabin.
By an incredible coincidence, the very same victim boarded this very same bus and immediately asked about his property.
The smartphone had to be returned on the spot, and an argument broke out on the bus. The men got off together at the nearest stop, where the phone's owner saw a police officer and immediately reported the fraudster to him.
As reported to "Minsk-Novosti" by the prosecutor's office of Frunzensky district, the detained Minsk resident is officially unemployed, divorced, and already has five convictions for theft. Another criminal case has been opened against him. He fully admitted his guilt. In addition to the court, the man faces compulsory treatment for chronic alcoholism.
