18-year-old flag bearer of the Moldovan national team turned out to be a staunch Putin supporter
18-year-old skier Elizaveta Khlusovich, who was the flag bearer for the Moldovan national team at the opening of the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy, was accused of supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian army, and the war in Ukraine.

Reportedly, users from Moldova found her page on the social network "VKontakte", where the athlete was subscribed to several pro-Russian communities, including those dedicated to the Russian army, Putin, and military reports.

A few hours after this information appeared in the media, Khlusovich's page was partially cleaned: she changed her profile name, unsubscribed from a number of pro-Russian groups, but photos and videos were still available. By February 9, the account was completely deleted.

Elizaveta Khlusovich was born in Russia. Her mother is biathlete Natalia Levchenkova, who also competed for Moldova and is considered the country's most successful athlete in winter sports.

The situation caused discontent among some Moldovan sports officials. Earlier, the chairman of the Moldovan Wrestling Federation, Ivan Georgiu, criticized the fact that four athletes of Russian origin were representing the country at the Winter Olympic Games.

In total, Moldova is represented by five athletes at the Olympics in Italy, four of whom were born in Russia: Elizaveta Khlusovich, as well as biathletes Alina Stremous, Pavel Magazeev, and Maxim Makarov.
