Poland Reveals Details About Spy Uncovered in Ministry of Defense
The head of Poland's Military Counterintelligence Service, General Jarosław Stróżyk, stated that the arrest of a spy who had worked for a long time in the Polish Ministry of Defense is an undoubted success for the special services. According to him, this person had very wide access to information, which could have been extremely useful for foreign intelligence, PAP writes .

The detainee is a civilian employee of the Ministry of Defense who had worked there since the 1990s and held positions in various strategically important units related to defense planning and international security. He had access to classified materials, and his last security clearance was in 2021.
Last Wednesday, the man was officially charged with espionage on behalf of one of the "eastern direction" states. The court arrested him for three months, and such a crime in Poland carries a penalty of 8 years in prison to life imprisonment.
General Stróżyk emphasized that this is the first case of applying the strengthened norms of the Polish Criminal Code, introduced in 2023, which indicates the seriousness of the matter. He also noted that treason against the state is possible at any age: the suspect worked in the Ministry of Defense for several decades, participated in international conferences, frequently traveled abroad, and had extensive contacts, including with high-ranking officials.
The head of the MCS (Military Counterintelligence Service) refused to disclose how long the suspect might have been engaged in espionage, as this is part of a secret investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office and the Internal Security Agency. He also criticized attempts to downplay the significance of the case or claim that the spy was allegedly uncovered by chance, emphasizing that the arrest was the result of long and complex work by operatives and analysts.
According to the general, a detailed analysis of possible losses to the country's security is now being conducted, and all information carriers used by the suspect are being examined. The possibility that he might have been part of a broader spy network is also not excluded.
Finally, Stróżyk stated that the Military Counterintelligence Service now operates more effectively, has a branched structure throughout the country, and acts professionally, not on political orders. In the near future, he intends to present classified information about this case to the parliamentary commission on special services.
It became known on February 3rd that an employee of the Polish Ministry of Defense suspected of espionage was arrested in Warsaw, according to a statement from the ministry itself. The arrest took place directly within the ministry building.
