A "bird machine" has been set up in Warsaw to rescue injured birds. They say it's the first of its kind in the world
A unique 24-hour reception point for injured wild birds, Ptasi Punkt Przyjęć, which has already been dubbed the "bird machine" by locals, has started operating on the grounds of the Warsaw Zoo. City residents can bring birds in need of urgent help here, reports the-warsaw.pl.

The point allows birds to be transferred to specialists at the Bird Shelter much faster, thus providing them with prompt assistance. The zoo management claims that there are no analogues to this solution anywhere in the world.

This is the first place in Warsaw where one can turn upon finding an injured wild bird. The point operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and immediately connects people with employees of the Bird Shelter.

The director of the Warsaw Zoo noted that the idea of creating such a point emerged many years ago and became the realization of his childhood dream — to create a safe space for wild birds. Although the shelter itself developed gradually, the "bird machine" became a fundamentally new and innovative solution, which is not found even in countries with developed wildlife protection systems.

The new pavilion is designed to allow for the safe and convenient transfer of birds of any size — from small tits to storks. The premises are divided into two zones: one for visitors and the second, enclosed, for shelter staff. Special boxes are installed inside, and the building itself is equipped with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, and video surveillance.

Using the point is very simple. A person must inform the zoo's security about the intention to transfer a bird, carry it in a box to the "bird machine," place it in a free compartment, fill out a special card indicating the compartment number, and leave it nearby or in a special urn. After this, one must ensure that the compartment door is tightly closed.

Instructions are posted both at the entrance to the zoo and inside the premises, and are available in several languages. Visitors are asked to maintain silence, not to open occupied compartments, and not to leave food or extraneous items inside.
