According to Macron, Europe always suffered defeat "when it was slow and fragmented," writes Bild.
The best example is the financial crisis. It came from the USA, but Europe suffered "ten times more" because it was fragmented instead of acting together. It was completely different during the COVID pandemic: "We acted very quickly and as a united front," Macron proudly notes.
However, now, according to the president, another test of strength is approaching. Trump, customs duties, Greenland – and Europe, which too often settles for the illusion of security: "Do not believe for a second that it is all over. Every day, every week brings new threats. Europe suffers from trauma: after every escalation comes a cowardly relief. This crisis itself represents a deep geopolitical fault line," he warns.
Macron demanded that Europe "emerge from a state of geopolitical immaturity."
According to him, Europe must think in terms of power, ensure defense, and invest heavily – in defense, technology, artificial intelligence, quantum computers: "These are battles that must be won. If we do nothing, in five years there will be no Europe."
