Along with Telegram's slowdown, YouTube started being blocked in Russia
On the evening of February 10, users in various regions of Russia encountered complete inaccessibility of the YouTube video hosting service. As reported by "Kommersant", the reason was the disappearance of the YouTube domain from the database of the National Domain Name System (NDNS), which was created in Russia within the framework of legislation on the so-called "sovereign RuNet".

As a result of the failure, user devices whose internet traffic passed through the NDNS stopped receiving correct IP addresses for YouTube servers. In fact, the only way to access the service remained the use of VPNs and other means of bypassing restrictions.
Experts note that the problem affected only traffic routed through the Russian national system, because the YouTube domain remained in global DNS records.
This is not the first instance of YouTube service failures in Russia. While previously they were explained by technical problems, since the summer of 2024, failures have started to be recorded at the domain name level. According to a similar scheme, access to Discord and Signal messengers was temporarily restricted in October 2024.
NDNS is part of the "sovereign RuNet" infrastructure, the law on which came into force on November 1, 2019. Its official goal is to ensure the stable and secure operation of the Russian segment of the internet in case of external threats. Since 2021, internet providers are obliged to use this system.
