Belarusians warned not to send scans of their passports to Ozon marketplace
The National Center for Personal Data Protection of Belarus reports that people have started contacting them with questions about the collection of passport data when ordering goods on the Russian marketplace Ozon. It advises what to do in such a case.

Passports are required if the order originates from outside the EAEU (for example, from China), as this is necessary for customs declaration of purchases, regardless of their value.
However, the processing of this data in such cases is subject to the legislation of other countries, not Belarus. Therefore, the center advises to carefully read the terms of agreements and the personal data processing policy.
The state institution emphasized: it is definitely not worth sending copies or scans of passports.
At the same time, the investigation into how securely personal data is stored on Ozon is ongoing, and the center promises to inform citizens about the results.
The Ozon website notes that personal data is sometimes processed by legal entities of the marketplace registered in EAEU countries. Additionally, this data may be transferred when using certain Ozon services, for the performance of contracts, or at the request of tax authorities and courts.
