Who bought a new "Geely" from a showroom on credit and doesn't regret it a year or two later? Opinions are divided

A Belarusian man on Threads asked Geely and Belgee owners if they were satisfied with their cars.

«Who actually bought a new one from the showroom on credit and doesn't regret it a year or two later? Nowadays, every second car on the roads is an "Emgrand" or "Coolray", but opinions online are as always divided: some enjoy the warranty and the smell of a new car, others curse and say that "I should have bought a Passat B8 from Europe". How's the build quality? What about fuel consumption, and can our service really handle it if something breaks?», — the man inquired.

The post garnered over 100 thousand views and 430 comments from both those who bought a Geely and those who preferred used cars from Europe or the USA.

«Very satisfied and would buy again now»

«Bought an X50 a year and a half ago, mileage 20 thousand, very satisfied and would buy again now. In winter, consumption is 12 liters, in summer 9-10. Nimble, high-sitting, I like everything about it. Service handles well».

A person who has owned an Emgrand sedan for the second year claims that he likes everything about it.

«Payments are manageable, the smell of a new car, no American or European has ever farted in my cabin, nothing breaks or squeaks, starts on half a turn even in the recent minus 29».

A woman who bought a new Geely Tugella in 2024 says she is still completely thrilled with the car.

And names only one nuance – fuel consumption of almost 13 liters in the city.

High fuel consumption is a common complaint in the comments. Even with a 1.5-liter engine, it's about 10 liters in the city.

«Bought a new Geely Atlas exactly 7 years ago. Had no problems with the car at all», — a man briefly describes his operating experience.

Another Belarusian, who has already changed two Geely Atlases (2020 and 2025 models) in 6 years, also claims he had no problems with the cars.

It is noteworthy that among the commentators there are many who have already managed to replace one Geely model with another.

«Initially, I cautiously bought a Coolray. Drove it for about four years without complaints. Now we've taken an Atlas New, and everything is great», — writes another commentator.

There are also those not very satisfied with their purchase.

A girl even attached photos of the trunk lid with corrosion on a two-year-old car. Overall, she writes that her satisfaction with the car is 50/50.

Those who bought a used car from Europe instead of a new Chinese-Belarusian car also responded.

«We took a VW Passat B8 – it's absolutely fantastic! The comfort level doesn't compare to a Coolray (X50) and certainly not an Emgrand (S50)», — writes a woman who had previously used Geely for carsharing.

Another person wrote that two years ago they imported a 2019 diesel Peugeot 508 wagon from Belgium with just under 90,000 kilometers on the odometer.

«Pure delight. Tried driving a Geely. God forbid again. Europe is better», — writes the man.

In addition to feedback on the quality of the car, some also drew attention to the financial aspect.

A person who drove a Geely Coolray for three years and 110,000 kilometers says he bought the car for $25,000 and sold it for $14,000.

«That's all the math», — he says, and then lists what was done under warranty during that time: three elements repainted under warranty, warranty expired on the fourth element. Stabilizer link replaced under warranty at 25,000 kilometers. Rear view camera stopped working at 40,000 kilometers, keyless access at 50,000 kilometers. After 80,000 kilometers, glitches started appearing in the multimedia system, the cause was never found, after 100,000 kilometers the parking sensors stopped working.

As a result, after selling the Geely Coolray, the man bought a salvage car from America.

«Cheaper, more options, higher reliability, higher liquidity», — he believes.

Another commentator, who was considering buying a Geely, also refers to large financial losses when buying a new car instead of a used one. He provides his calculation of the cost per kilometer for new and used cars.

«It's twice as high compared to the used car market. For me, for example, by all calculations, one kilometer of driving costs $0.23. For a new car, it will be at least $0.40 due to financial losses when buying from the showroom».

In addition, the commentator claims that cars of this brand are not needed by anyone on the secondary market for cash, because all their buyers go for credit programs, so selling such a car later will be difficult.

The question of liquidity is quite popular.

And to understand whether you like a particular Geely/Belgee, some advise trying them out in carsharing first.

    А што не так з матэматыкай? Прабег вышэй за 100тыс, хай дзякуй скажа што ўвогуле прадаў за 14.

    Давайте честно признаемся, что вы коверкаете информацию и не понимаете что происходит в Беларуси. На самом деле объективная картина такая:
    1. Беларусы активно пересаживаются на китайские авто, которые лучше немецких.
    2. Доходы беларусов очень сильно выросли и сопоставимы с польскими.
    3. Дальнобои на Китай зарабатывают больше, чем на Европу. При этом в России безопасно, в отличии от Европы.
    Можно и дальше развивать этот список. Правда ваша модерация не любит правду и честную позицию.

    Наверное я все же в сторону нового китайца. Америка 100 нет никакая. Европейцы конечно это хорошо. Ну теперь по Европе все больше и больше китайцев. Рынок они прогнули
