An information database, which will register all domestic pets and companion animals, may appear in Minsk. This was announced by Dmitry Shaloika, head of the Minsk City Veterinary Station, as reported by BelTA.

The novelty could begin operation in the next few years. According to the head of the capital's veterinary station, initially, only veterinary doctors will use the resource. Later, access will be provided to pet owners.
“This database will store information starting from the animal's birth, as well as data on vaccinations and other veterinary procedures, owner information, and chipping details. If the owner agrees to chipping, the chip number will be recorded in the database. Prompts for veterinary doctors conducting appointments are also foreseen,” the expert explained.
If the database proves effective and informative, Minsk's experience is planned to be extended to the whole of Belarus.
Speaking about animal chipping, Dmitry Shaloika noted that only a few thousand pets in the capital have undergone this procedure, as it is voluntary.
Meanwhile, chipping can be the only chance to find a pet if it has run away, gotten lost, or been stolen. It is also necessary for obtaining a veterinary passport for a pet.
