Alexander Lukashenka, at a meeting with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Timur Zhaksylykov, highly praised the results of the referendum in Kazakhstan, which adopted the country's new Constitution, BelTA writes.

"After all, no matter what you say, this is support for President Tokayev. He took a risk in these difficult times, put very important issues for Kazakhstan to a referendum, and the people — both in terms of participation and especially in terms of voting (over 87 percent) — voted. A stunning result," Alexander Lukashenka emphasized.
"I want to congratulate you. And I ask you: convey my warmest wishes and congratulations to Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich on the result. He is a great guy. And congratulate the Kazakh people, Kazakhstanis, on this success," he added.
The new Constitution was adopted in Kazakhstan following the republican referendum on March 15. 87.15% of participants voted in favor of the Basic Law.
One of the key innovations is the formation of a unicameral parliament, the Kurultai, consisting of 145 deputies, and the introduction of the post of vice-president, who will act on behalf of the head of state.
The creation of a supreme consultative body representing the interests of the people — Kazakhstan Khalyk Kenesi (People's Council of Kazakhstan) — is also envisaged. It is empowered to develop recommendations on domestic policy and strengthening social harmony, submit legislative proposals to the Kurultai, and initiate referendums.
