"European countries should not close themselves off from Belarusian citizens." Czech President commented on meeting with Ales Bialiatski

Czech President Petr Pavel wrote on his X social media page about his impressions after the meeting on March 16 with Belarusian human rights activist and former political prisoner, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski, reports "Viasna".

Petr Pavel and Ales Bialiatski

"I had the honor to welcome human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski, who unjustly spent more than seven years in a Belarusian prison.

We agreed that sanctions against the Belarusian regime remain appropriate as long as it continues to imprison its critics and brutally suppress civil liberties.

Belarusians deserve the right to decide their future freely and without external interference. In this context, Ales Bialiatski also reminded that European countries should not close themselves off from Belarusian citizens — only in this way will Belarusians be able to overcome the isolation imposed on them," Petr Pavel wrote.
