Ismail Khatib
"The cowardly assassination of my dear colleagues Ismail Khatib, Ali Larijani, and Aziz Nasirzadeh, along with some members of their families and escorts, has plunged us into mourning. I extend my condolences to the great people of Iran for the martyrdom of two cabinet members, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, military commanders, and Basij fighters. I am confident that their path will be continued with even greater determination," Pezeshkian wrote on social network X.
Ismail Khatib served as intelligence minister since 2021 and headed the country's main intelligence structure. Previously, he also worked in security agencies and, according to reports, participated in suppressing protests in Iran.
Ali Larijani, also mentioned by Pezeshkian, is the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, whose death was reported yesterday. Iran's Minister of Defense, Aziz Nasirzadeh, died on the very first day of the war, February 28.
