During the meeting, the head of government thanked the American diplomat for his efforts aimed at the release of political prisoners in Belarus. She emphasized that Lithuania's position remains unchanged: repression in Belarus must stop, and all political prisoners must be released.
The parties also discussed regional security issues. The Lithuanian side believes that Belarus remains one of the main threats in the region. Examples cited included so-called hybrid actions — illegal migration, smuggling, incidents involving cargo transport, as well as support for Russia in the war against Ukraine.
In addition, it was noted that the European Union continues a unified course regarding Belarus, including through the maintenance of sanctions.
Lithuania also emphasized the importance of strategic partnership with the United States and allied relations between the two countries.
It was previously reported that after visiting Vilnius, Cole intends to travel to Minsk. His visits are usually accompanied by the release of some political prisoners.
