The most effective way to prevent is vaccination.
This was reported to journalists by Vlada Zapolskaya, head of the anti-epidemic department of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, writes BelTA.
The medical professional noted that the tick season can already be considered open. "In January and February, 5 bites were registered. Average daily temperatures of about 5 degrees Celsius have been established for two weeks now, and the population is noticing ticks in forest park areas. In spring, they are hungrier and actively attack," said Vlada Zapolskaya.
The epidemiologist reminded about preventive measures. First of all, it is necessary to protect the skin with light-colored clothing with cuffs, use headwear and repellents. After visiting forests and parks, a self-examination should be performed.
The most effective preventive measure is vaccination. Free vaccinations are provided to forest workers, military personnel, and other categories who work in risk areas. For other citizens, vaccination is carried out on a paid basis.
In case of a bite, it is necessary to immediately remove the tick, treat the area with an antiseptic, and seek medical attention within the first 72 hours for emergency antibiotic prophylaxis.
