A McLaren, intended for a Russian but confiscated after four years of court battles, has been put up for auction. The starting price is impressive
This exclusive car has an interesting and quite complicated history, which allowed it to maintain a ridiculously low mileage even six years after its production.

They miscalculated, but where?
This car was being transported from Lithuania to Belarus back in autumn 2021, before the war and sanctions, but the final buyer was a Russian citizen. The plan was to clear customs for the car in Belarus.
The McLaren 720S sports car, manufactured in 2019, was being transported on a trailer across the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. The car left the territory of the European Union without problems, but problems began on the Belarusian side.

The fact is that, according to the documents presented, the value of the two-year-old sports car with a mileage of about 300 kilometers was only 17,990 euros. Such a price raised reasonable suspicions with Belarusian customs. They determined that the real cost of the car was 261,579 euros, which is 14.5 times more than declared.
Why was it only put up for auction now?
Despite the case originating in November 2021, the final decision to confiscate the car was made by the court only in February 2026.
Why this process dragged on for more than four years is unknown. But it is known that the sports car was imported under a privilege for a disabled person of the second group, to clear customs under Decree No. 140, i.e., with a 50% discount.

It turned out that the real buyer of the almost new McLaren was a certain Russian citizen, and Belarus was needed only to save on customs duties.
The thing is, for cars under 3 years old, customs duty is calculated at a rate of 48% of the value (but not less than 5.5 euros per cubic centimeter). Accordingly, if the duty is processed for a privileged person, the rate will be 24% (2.75 euros per cubic centimeter).
As a result, Grodno Customs calculated that understating the value could have led to evasion of customs payments amounting to more than 280,000 rubles.

Watch the numbers
If we take the amount of 17,990 euros specified in the accompanying documents and process the customs registration for a Belarusian privileged person, as planned, the customs payments would amount to only about 11,000 euros.
But if we take the customs' valuation (which looks much more realistic) and clear the car at the full rate, since the real owner has no privileges, then about 125,000 euros would have to be paid.
However, the desire to save more than 110 thousand euros on customs duties resulted in four years of court proceedings and the confiscation of the car.
Now the six-year-old McLaren 720S sports car with a mileage of 313 kilometers has been put up for sale at the Grodno confiscated goods platform konfiskat from the GD "Vostochny".

The starting price of the car is 1,041,444 rubles, which is about 307,500 euros at the current exchange rate. The description states the car's condition as satisfactory: minor scratches on the body, battery discharged. Ignition key is present, engine starts.
The first auction is scheduled for April 24.

3) Просто вместо 179 900 написали 17 990 (думаю этот вариант самый правдоподобный). Потому и судились годами в надежде доказать, что просто нолик забыли добавить
