During the service on Great (Maundy) Thursday, April 9, Patriarch Kirill delivered a sermon in which he unexpectedly congratulated believers on the Feast of Epiphany, which is celebrated in January and belongs to a completely different period of the church calendar. Journalist Ksenia Luchenko drew attention to this in her Telegram channel "Orthodoxy and Zombies".

According to the description, after this he spent several more minutes reflecting precisely on the meaning of Epiphany, although the service that day was dedicated to another holiday — Great Thursday, one of the key days before Easter.
After this, an open book was handed to the Patriarch, and looking into it, he reoriented his sermon, noting that "today we celebrate Great Thursday", after which he continued his address in accordance with the current holiday. This episode was captured in the broadcast of the service and became a subject of discussion online.
After the public address, the text of the sermon was published on the official website of the Moscow Patriarchate in an edited form: mentions of Epiphany were removed from it. Information about the situation also widely spread through social networks and individual media, where attention was drawn to the discrepancy between the beginning of the sermon and later changes in the text.
Patriarch Kirill is 79 years old, and a number of publications have previously raised the topic of his health and possible age-related changes, including cognitive ones. However, these assertions have not been officially confirmed and remain at the level of opinions and interpretations from individual sources.
