Terrorist in Kyiv killed six people and barricaded himself in a supermarket. He was shot during the assault
Special forces of the Rapid Operational Response Corps (KORD) of the National Police of Ukraine stormed a supermarket where a gunman was holding people hostage. He resisted and was killed, reported Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.
During the operation
The man took people hostage and shot at police officers during an attempt to detain him. Before this, negotiators tried to contact him. Attempts lasted 40 minutes, but the gunman did not engage.
According to "Ukrainska Pravda", the gunman's name is Dmytro Vasylchenko, born on April 21, 1968. He was born in Moscow and held Ukrainian citizenship. He previously lived in Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, and later in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv.
A photo of the weapon used by the attacker has also appeared. It is reported to be a KelTec SUB2000 rifle, a semi-automatic carbine that folds in half and is a legal weapon.
As reported by "Ukrainska Pravda", 5 people died as a result of the shooting: 4 on the street, during the gunman's movement from a residential building to the store, and 1 person already inside the store, among the hostages.
Eliminated gunman
There were disagreements among high-ranking officials regarding the number of fatalities. Ukraine's Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko stated 4, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated 5. However, it later became clear that Kravchenko referred to those killed on the street and did not include the person who died in the supermarket in his count.
Later, the number of fatalities increased to six – it became known that a critically wounded 30-year-old woman died in the hospital. This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.
