Katsiaryna Andreyeva returns to journalism and announced her first video interview soon
Former political prisoner and Belsat journalist Katsiaryna Andreyeva announced that she has returned to her profession after five and a half years of imprisonment. She has already conducted her first interview — with former political prisoner and human rights activist Nastassia Loika. They arranged the conversation while "traveling together in a minibus to the Lithuanian border" after their release from the Homiel women's penal colony, Belsat writes .

«I hope this will be a series of interviews,» Katsiaryna Andreyeva said on "Morning with Belsat." «For now, I've decided to try my hand at the first one; we'll see how it turns out. Nastassia Loika and I agreed on this interview when we were traveling together in a minibus to the Lithuanian border on the day of our release — March 19th. A little over a month ago. Even earlier, in the penal colony, we were friends and discussed that it would be great if we were released around the same time so I could interview her. And she said that it would be very pleasant for her.»
Desire to focus on major interviews and "human stories"
According to Katsiaryna, a new trend has emerged — when former political prisoner journalists interview former political prisoners:
«We share a common experience and understand each other better than a journalist who was free all this time.»
Katsiaryna Andreyeva said that her first interview after her release will be broadcast "in the coming days" on the Belsat TV channel, and she showed an excerpt from that conversation.
She also stated that she now wants to focus on major interviews and "human stories," and Nastassia Loika's story was the first step in this direction.
«Nastassia emphasized that it is very important for her that the conversation not be from the victim's perspective. She really wouldn't want people to see her as a victim of torture. It's hard for me to talk about this, but Nastassia went through very difficult times, and in many ways, her experience was harder than mine. But now she doesn't want to 'turn the page' so much as find the strength within herself to forgive. And she openly talks about it,» Katsiaryna reported.
«Nastassia is unbroken; I knew her even before our 'imprisonment'. Her values, the basic principles that guide her in her life, her relationships with people, and her human rights activities — they remain unchanged, and that is very good. And the four years she spent behind bars did not affect her worldview or perception of the world. I hope that our viewers will be able to appreciate this when the interview is released,» the journalist added.
New conditions and challenges for journalists
Katsiaryna Andreyeva noted that Belarusian journalists in exile are currently facing numerous trials and challenges, but this does not prevent them from working for the benefit of readers and viewers in changed conditions:
«Now, Belarusian journalism has become more complicated for us — both from an ethical and technical point of view. We no longer have correspondents in Belarus who could gather information and exclusive content. Everything is based more on information we take from social networks. Which is difficult and cannot but affect quality. New challenges have emerged — and it depends on the journalist's skill how to use this situation to obtain exclusive content and create interesting material for viewers, even under such conditions, in exile.»
