"She was afraid to tell her mother"
Baranavichy is a fairly large city with well-developed infrastructure. Multi-story buildings here often border private sectors, gradually displacing the latter.
The tragedy that occurred in one of the houses on April 20 became known on Wednesday, April 22. In recent days, all of Baranavichy has been talking about it. Here's what Viktor (name changed) told "Onliner":
"An acquaintance works in the 'funeral services,' he went there to pick up the infant's body. The house is located in the private sector. The infant had an uncut umbilical cord… In general, a terrible story."
A source familiar with the situation confirmed that the tragedy indeed occurred in one of the private houses. The girl started living with her grandmother sometime around the end of last year.
"They have a normal middle-income family: mother, father (he is the girl's stepfather. — Note from "Onliner"), another child. She was not on the register for SNP (socially dangerous situation). Last year, she had a relationship with a guy, and she became pregnant by him. Only the two of them knew about it. After learning about the pregnancy, the girl decided to break off relations with the guy. Her plan was to give birth and leave the child at the hospital," says the interlocutor, familiar with the situation.
According to him, the girl was afraid of her parents' anger; she worried that if they found out about the pregnancy, they would scold her. Her mother also gave birth early and always emphasized, when given the opportunity, that it's not advisable to do so at a young age. Apparently, that's why, as the time approached when her belly might become noticeable, the girl moved to live with her grandmother in the private sector.
"The grandmother also knew nothing and suspected nothing: the girl herself is a bit plump and wore oversized clothes. It's unknown what and how she planned with the childbirth, but it apparently happened unexpectedly for her. At night, the grandmother heard some sounds from the bathroom, went up to her on the second floor, and asked what happened. Her granddaughter reassured her, saying everything was fine. After some time, the grandmother went up to her again, found the girl already in the room, and, concerned about her condition, called an ambulance."
Further, as the Investigative Committee reported, medics noticed that the young patient was admitted with signs of recent childbirth and contacted the police. In the grandmother's house, where the girl had recently been living, the body of a newborn child was found in a bag "with bodily injuries."
The girl is still in the hospital. The investigation continues.
