A French soldier from the UN peacekeeping mission was killed in southern Lebanon during an attack on peacekeepers. This was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron, who blamed the "Hezbollah" movement for the incident, writes Euronews.

According to Macron, Staff Sergeant Florian Montarrieu was killed, and three other soldiers were wounded and evacuated. France demands that Lebanese authorities find and punish those responsible.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of a recently announced truce between Israel and Hezbollah and could worsen the situation in southern Lebanon. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun had earlier spoken of a possible new phase of peace agreements and a transition to stability after the ceasefire.
However, the positions of the parties remain different: the Lebanese authorities speak of striving for peace and sovereignty, while Hezbollah criticizes the agreements and calls them a concession.
Thousands of people have already died in the conflict, and hundreds of thousands have been forced to leave their homes. The situation remains tense, and the international community fears a new escalation.
