Journalist Hanna Liubakova Receives Amnesty International Chair 2026 Award
Hanna was recognized for her work covering autocracy, repression, and democratic resistance in Belarus.

Belarusian journalist Hanna Liubakova has been awarded the honorary title of Amnesty International Chair 2026 laureate.
Since 2007, Ghent University has awarded this prize to individuals who demonstrate exceptional and unwavering dedication to the defense of human rights.
Hanna was recognized for her work covering autocracy, repression, and democratic resistance in Belarus. "Even in exile, she continues to amplify the voices of political prisoners, persecuted journalists, and civil society representatives who are being silenced," the award statement read.
The award ceremony will take place on October 1st at the VierNulVier center (Ghent, Belgium).
Hanna Liubakova was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison in the case of "Tsikhanouskaya's analysts."
The Amnesty International Chair award was established by Amnesty International and Ghent University. It honors individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of human rights worldwide.
Each year, this honorary title is awarded to an outstanding human rights defender, scholar, or public figure. The laureate is invited to Ghent University to share their knowledge and experience with both the academic community and the general public. As part of the program, the laureate delivers lectures and workshops.
