Nawrocki had already awarded Poczobut with this order last year on November 11, Poland's Independence Day. At that time, the political prisoner was still in detention. The award was given for his activities in support of Poles in Belarus, his fight for human rights, and his principled stance against totalitarian manifestations.

The day before the official presentation, Poczobut and his wife Aksana were invited to dinner by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. According to Tusk, they discussed Poland, freedom, and the future.
The Order of the White Eagle is the oldest and highest state award of Poland, bestowed for exceptional merits to the state.
Andrzej Poczobut, a journalist and activist of the Polish minority in Belarus, sentenced to eight years in prison in Belarus, was released on April 28. He spent five years and one month behind bars.
