Russia and Ukraine believe there are virtually no prospects for resuming US-mediated peace talks.

The command convinced Putin that the Russian army would be able to capture Donbas by autumn. Financial Times writes about this, citing two sources who are in contact with Putin, two more informed sources, as well as assessments from Ukrainian intelligence.
Russia and Ukraine believe that there are virtually no prospects for resuming US-mediated peace talks, even after the end of the war in the Middle East.
According to the newspaper's interlocutors who communicate with Putin, he is becoming "increasingly obsessed with capturing Donbas", despite the fact that in the early stages of the war, he allegedly privately expressed readiness to freeze hostilities along the current front line.
"I persuaded him to end everything at the current borders. But he keeps repeating: 'No, I cannot compromise on this issue'," one of the newspaper's interlocutors claims.
Another source says that Putin is being briefed that "Ukrainians are struggling, their front is collapsing, and they are running out of people."
After the alleged capture of Donbas, Putin plans to raise the price for any ceasefire by escalating Russia's territorial demands, three of these sources said.
