Electric train derailed near Belgorod — possibly due to tracks being blown up
A suburban train derailed in the Belgorod region. According to local authorities, the cause of the accident was the undermining of the railway track, which resulted in about two meters of the railway being destroyed.
According to preliminary data, an improvised explosive device was planted under the rails; fragments of it were found at the scene. The train driver managed to apply emergency braking, but part of the carriages still derailed.
At the time of the incident, there were 15 people on the train.
One woman was injured: she sustained a laceration to her leg and a back contusion, after which she was urgently taken to a Belgorod hospital.
The governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, confirmed the incident, noting that the main version of what happened is the detonation of an explosive device.
