The US Armed Forces canceled the deployment of more than 4,000 soldiers to Poland, sources in the military told Defense News portal. According to them, the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division, as well as related military equipment, was supposed to be deployed to the country.
A US Army representative confirmed the cancellation of the deployment but did not specify details and redirected all questions to the Pentagon. The US Department of Defense, in turn, did not respond to Defense News' request.
According to the portal, information about the change in plans began to circulate among servicemen on the morning of May 11. Soldiers reported the decision to friends and relatives. However, during budget hearings in Congress on May 12, neither Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll nor Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army General Christopher Lanive mentioned the cancellation of troop deployment to Poland.
At the same time, Senator Jack Reed stated that the US Army faced a budget deficit of at least $2 billion due to ongoing operations, including the deployment of the National Guard in Washington and the involvement of units in US border protection.
