In Zimbabwe, the unexpected visit of the country's President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Belarus is being actively discussed, Reform.news noted in the local press. He flew from Harare on the night of May 14 without the solemnities that usually accompany state leader trips. He also did not attend the farewell dinner in honor of the Chief Justice, which further attracted attention.
According to local media, the authorities did not explain the purpose of the trip in detail. One official only reported that Mnangagwa had previously flown to Belarus in a similar format — secretly and without official publicity.
The trip takes place at a time when the Zimbabwean parliament is preparing to discuss constitutional amendments. These could extend Mnangagwa's stay in power until 2030 and abolish direct presidential elections.
After his departure, rumors appeared on social networks that the president had allegedly taken gold bars out of the country. These discussions arose after his recent visit to the reserve bank and gold vault.
Other users speculated that 83-year-old Mnangagwa might have had health problems.
