From Pripyat to the Caucasus. How a family from near Minsk travels by camper

In Belarus, there are thousands of places worth seeing — from ancient castles to picturesque riverbanks. The Daineka family from Leskavka near Minsk has been traveling with a camper trailer for six years, and each trip is an adventure that gives them a feeling of freedom, writes pristalica.by.

From the first trailer to an autonomous camper: what's inside

Six years ago, the head of the family, Dmitry Daineka, bought his first camper. It cost five thousand dollars — the old trailer required investment. After repairs, the family embarked on their first big journey, which gave them a feeling of freedom they didn't want to lose.

The second camper was wider and longer, but it was impossible to turn around with it in Belarusian forests and on narrow country roads — maneuverability proved more important.

As a result, the family decided to return to a compact size and prioritize comfort. Thus, they bought their third, current motorhome.

According to the owners, it is completely autonomous, insulated, and designed for frosts down to minus 40°C. Inside, there are heated floors, heating, lighting, a shower, a toilet, and hot water. There's even a full-fledged kitchen with a cooking surface, sink, and refrigerator, where Viktoria prepares breakfast for the family during trips in the morning. A dining area is also provided; in the evening, it transforms into a sleeping place. By the way, there are four sleeping places in the camper, so the whole family fits. And there's even a TV.

“All of this runs on solar panels on the roof — we installed them ourselves on each camper. There's also a 220-volt inverter: you can charge your phone, connect a laptop, and use a hairdryer. Everything is at hand here,” Dmitry recounts.

Everything that might be needed for a trip is stored in a special compartment of the camper: tents, a portable bathhouse, a water supply, and gas cylinders for cooking. They often take bicycles with them too — to explore the surroundings.

Favorite Routes: from Pripyat to the Caucasus

The Daineka family's warmest memories are associated with travels around Belarus. Their favorite holiday spot is the Pripyat River. They go there most often.

“My girls, Vika and Ksyusha, just like me, love to fish. We always take fishing rods and a motor with us. On the Pripyat, I conquered a catfish weighing 47 kilograms,” he recalls. “I pulled it to the shore alone for almost an entire hour. After a photoshoot, of course, we released it. We don't eat fish ourselves, but we often dry it to treat friends,” he laughs.

For the Daineka family, 300 kilometers to Pripyat is nothing. Their longest journey lasted almost three weeks. Then, in their camper, they traveled over 7 thousand kilometers — through Abkhazia, Sochi, Pyatigorsk, Volgograd, Chechnya, and Dagestan.

During this time, they enjoyed the grandeur of the mountains, breathtaking landscapes, and met wonderfully hospitable people. Viktoria says that such trips are remembered for a lifetime.

Why Belarus is a paradise for campers

The couple notes that in Belarus, you can park a trailer anywhere. In Europe, however, they often ask for money for parking, sometimes comparable to renting a hotel room. They see this as the main advantage of traveling in their home country.

Over six years, the family has made many friends in various corners of Belarus and even beyond its borders. Everywhere they go, they are warmly welcomed.

The family plans to buy a "Traveler's Passport" and visit all corners of the country where they haven't been yet.
