Fresh photos of the shallowing Pripyat in Mozyr, posted by local blogger Lyosha Astapenka, shocked users. As noted by "Flagstock" from the August 16th photos, in some sections of the riverbed, instead of water, there is bare sand, across which people are walking.

"Flagstock" published satellite images showing that the Pripyat floodplain turned into a "desert" in just one year, and reported that the drop in water level in the Pripyat is critical, but not yet a record. The water level has not yet reached the absolute minimum recorded in September 2015.
According to data for the morning of August 17, at the hydro-post in Mozyr, the water level in the Pripyat reached minus 7 centimeters above the zero mark. In recent days, the drop in level has slowed down.

However, in comments to the current photos, local residents note that they have not observed such shallowing of the river in Mozyr even in the record year of 2015.
