Ascent Prepared to Potential Death Site of Belarusian Climbers in Kyrgyzstan
The search operation in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, where Belarusian climbers went missing after ascending Kurumdy Peak, has moved to a new stage. The ground part of the search work has already been completed, and the operational headquarters continues to work on preparing a complex operation to ascend a dangerous section, Sputnik reports .
Alexander Hadlieuski, Chairman of the Belarusian Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation, reported that specialists are currently analyzing materials obtained during the area survey.
Earlier, drones spotted objects on the slope of Kurumdy Peak that could be the bodies of the missing climbers. However, it is not yet possible to definitively confirm this.
The video recordings clearly show climbing boots with crampons, as well as individual elements of clothing and equipment. The people themselves are barely visible due to snow and rocks.
Hadlieuski emphasized that it will only be possible to precisely determine what or who is on the slope and conduct a possible identification after they are brought down from the mountain.
The next task is to prepare a safe operation to ascend the slope. The section is complex and dangerous: there is a risk of rockfalls and avalanches.
Specialists continue to study the collected materials and perform the necessary calculations. Based on these, a plan for the future operation will be developed.
According to preliminary plans, the direct ascent may take place at the end of August or in September. The final dates will primarily depend on the conditions and safety of the work.
More than 100 volunteers are involved in the search.
Belarusians Maxim Polyanski and Nikolai Sviridov, as well as Lithuanian citizen Sergei Rubtsov, went missing after ascending Kurumdy Peak. The group last made contact on August 2.
