The Oldest BNTU Dormitory on Nezavisimosti Avenue is Being Restored in Minsk

The reconstruction of the oldest BNTU dormitory at Nezavisimosti Avenue, 61 is currently underway. Demolition work is almost complete, over 1.5 thousand tons of construction waste has been removed, writes Realt.by.

Specialists removed the old plaster, took out partitions, door blocks, worn-out utilities, and partially dismantled wooden and reinforced concrete floor slabs. The total volume of construction debris removed exceeded 1.5 thousand tons.

The historical facade of the building stands out with its rich decor: it is adorned with pilasters, a belvedere with a spire, a gabled attic with a sculpture, thematic high reliefs, and rusticated window frames. During the reconstruction, the exterior walls will be completely cleaned, and lost stucco elements will be restored according to original drawings.

The next stage will begin in early September — workers will strengthen the internal structures of the building and pour new reinforced concrete interfloor ceilings. Only after this, next year, will they proceed with the dismantling of the attic and roof.

There will be no serious changes in the layout: the dormitory will retain its familiar corridor system. During the large-scale renovation, windows, doors, and the roof will be completely replaced, internal premises will be renovated, and the historical appearance of the main entrance and vestibule will be restored. In about a month, specialists from "Belrestavratsia" are planned to be engaged in the restoration of the old facade.

At the same time, the interior space of the building will be adapted to modern standards: residential rooms and corridors will be thoroughly renovated to create comfortable living conditions for students.

The dormitory was built in 1954 in the Neoclassical style. The building is part of the integral architectural ensemble of BNTU and has the status of historical and cultural heritage, therefore all construction work is carried out under strict scientific supervision.
