Pyotr Shutko, Chairman of the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Minsk City Executive Committee, reported on the average life expectancy in the Belarusian capital. According to him, specialists predict that by 2040 this indicator will exceed 80 years.
Approximately 476,000 pensioners live in Minsk, of whom approximately 200,000 are people over 70 years old.
Elderly people are among the main recipients of services from territorial social service centers. They operate about 310 circles and clubs, attended by more than 7,000 people. The most popular activities are related to sports and wellness, computer and financial literacy, needlework, and applied arts.
About 3,500 people currently live in the capital's social boarding houses, and their occupancy is approximately 97%.
Eight stationary social institutions operate in Minsk. Last year, two new buildings were commissioned, and two more facilities are planned for completion next year. Specifically, a children's boarding house is being built on Vygotsky Street, and the reconstruction of the "Harmony" boarding house continues on Angarskaya Street.
