Lithuanian President on CIA Director's visit to Moscow: US does not want to disclose its content

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that allies were informed about the content of the US CIA Director's visit to Moscow, which took place last week. However, details are not subject to disclosure at the request of the United States, writes DELFI.

"Allies inform all of us about the content of the conversation. (...) But out of respect for the United States not wishing to disclose the details of this meeting, we adhere to the established order," the Lithuanian head of state told reporters.

According to Nausėda, the purpose of the visit was to reduce tension in the region.

"At this moment, I can state that the meeting reflected the set goals and was aimed at de-escalating tension in the region. I very much hope that this signal reached the Kremlin regime in a timely manner," he stressed.

Politico reported that the CIA chief flew to Moscow to warn Russia against attacking the Baltic states.

The Wall Street Journal, citing American officials, reported that Donald Trump personally sent CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow. As the newspaper notes, Ratcliffe's diplomatic mission to Russia was "so delicate" that even some high-ranking White House officials did not know about it in advance.

Donald Trump himself called the trip "almost routine." The Kremlin stated that Ratcliffe's trip was related to contacts between Russian and American intelligence agencies.
