Sanatorium "Belarus" guest went for a moped ride in night Sochi with a drunk chef without a license. And died

A 39-year-old Belarusian woman came for a vacation on a trade union voucher and died a few hundred meters from the "Belarus" sanatorium. The Adler District Court sentenced the driver to 5 years and 6 months in a penal colony settlement and ordered him to pay the deceased woman's husband about $24,600.

The woman received a voucher from the trade union organization to the "Belarus" sanatorium in the village of Krasnaya Polyana near Sochi. She flew to Krasnodar Krai, while her husband and child stayed at home.

"I called her every day and asked how her vacation was going," the husband's testimony states. One morning, an unknown person answered her number, introduced himself as a police officer, and informed him that the woman had died in an accident overnight.

The accused is Russian Karim Kuznetsov, who worked as a chef at the "Belarus" sanatorium. He met the woman during work: "I have such a job that I need to talk to guests, demonstrate dishes." He claimed that he asked her if she was married, but received no answer.

He bought the Jilang moped without license plates from a colleague at work – without documents and without even knowing the seller's surname. Kuznetsov did not have a driver's license: it had been revoked for leaving the scene of a previous accident.

Around midnight, Karim and the Belarusian guest met near a shop outside the sanatorium premises. The checkpoint guard recounted that when the moped with the passenger approached the barrier, the driver spoke to him – and "a strong smell of alcohol" emanated from him. But the guard opened the barrier.

Approximately at 00:30, the moped was moving along Kalinova Street in Krasnaya Polyana.

According to Kuznetsov's testimony, the passenger from behind started touching him, he asked her to stop and turned around to talk – and at that moment, on a bend in the road, the moped hit the curb, drove across the lawn, and collided with a metal fence.

The driver did not lose consciousness, he removed the helmet from the woman – she did not respond to his voice. He did not have his own phone, and he ran to the sanatorium guard asking him to call an ambulance.

Medics gave the Belarusian woman two adrenaline injections and pronounced her dead seven to ten minutes later.

Forensic medical examination revealed rupture of the liver and right kidney. These injuries led to the woman's death.
