Homer's "Odyssey" to be published in Belarusian for the first time

The great return of Odysseus now resonates in Belarusian. A complete translation of Homer's "Odyssey" into Belarusian by Leanvon Barshcheuski will soon be published, reported the Połackija Łabirynty publishing house.

"Odyssey" is the second well-known (written after "The Iliad") epic work of Ancient Greece and one of the greatest monuments of world literature. The authorship of both poems is traditionally attributed to the semi-legendary bard Homer, who probably lived in the 8th century BC.

This is the story of the hero's return home after the Trojan War, full of dangerous adventures, encounters with gods and monsters, trials of loyalty, intellect, and human dignity. For almost three millennia, "Odyssey" has remained one of the principal works of European civilization.

The first complete translation of the poem into Belarusian, executed entirely in hexameter, was accomplished by Leanvon Barshcheuski. The edition also includes commentaries that will help the modern reader better understand the work and its cultural-historical context.

"Odyssey" in Belarusian is an opportunity to discover one of humanity's greatest works in the native language.

It is possible to pre-order the edition; until September 20, it will have a special price — 89 zlotys (approximately 23.8 US dollars).
