The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has lifted restrictions for Belarusian and Russian athletes and basketball officials.
Now Belarusian and Russian basketball players, coaches, referees, commissioners, and other representatives will be able to participate in international competitions under the auspices of FIBA.
The decision applies to both regular basketball and 3x3 basketball. Representatives of Belarus and Russia can also be appointed to various official positions in international tournaments.
FIBA made this decision taking into account the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee to lift restrictions for athletes from Belarus and Russia.
However, the question of the return of national teams and club teams of the two countries to international tournaments remains open. FIBA plans to develop a corresponding plan, and the final decision is to be made at a meeting of the organization's Central Board in December 2026.
Belarusian basketball players have not participated in international competitions since 2022.
