Reservists in Moscow to be sent to drone destruction squads

Fighters are promised a salary of 2300 dollars and bonuses for each downed drone.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has decided to create special drone interception units in the Moscow Military District (MMD), which will be replenished at the expense of Russians in reserve, writes Moscow Times.

“To strengthen the air defense of critically important objects in the MMD territory, a decision has been made to form specialized FPV interceptor units from reservists,” TASS was told by the district’s press service.

It is assumed that reservists will be engaged in "operational counteraction" to drones and "ensuring reliable protection of military and civilian infrastructure facilities." For this purpose, they will use "high-speed FPV interceptor drones."

Currently, military personnel are training instructors who will teach reservists how to control interceptors. At the same time, participants in the war in Ukraine are being recruited as instructors.

The MMD, in addition to Moscow and the Moscow Oblast, includes Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Voronezh, Ivanovo, Kaluga, Kostroma, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tambov, Tver, Tula, and Yaroslavl Oblasts.

In June, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov announced work on creating mobile fire groups (MFG) to counter drones. Specifically, such groups appeared in the Leningrad Oblast, where they protect critically important infrastructure and enterprises.

These MFGs are formed from reservists who sign a three-year contract, said regional governor Alexander Drozdenko. Fighters are promised a salary of 200 thousand Russian rubles (2300 dollars) and bonuses of 100 thousand Russian rubles (1150 dollars) for each downed drone. The contract also includes mandatory life and health insurance for 2 million rubles (23 thousand dollars). Men up to 62 years old can join the MFGs.
