Residents of Smalyany agrotown in Orsha district restored the stone on the grave of Tomasz Zan. For many years after the tsarist exile, this writer-philomath lived in the Orsha region and was buried here in 1855. For a long time, no one took care of the tombstone, and it fell into disrepair, writes "Euroradio".

Tomasz Zan is one of the leaders of the Vilnius student societies of Philomaths and Philarets. He was a friend of Adam Mickiewicz and Jan Czeczot. In 1824, he was exiled to Orenburg Governorate, and after returning to Belarus, he settled in the Kahachyn estate near Orsha, where he studied nature and Belarusian folklore.
