The "Tbilisoba" Festival Returns to Minsk After a Seven-Year Break
Head of the Culture Department of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Kateryna Luchyna, stated on "Radio-Minsk" that the "Tbilisoba" festival is planned to be held in the Belarusian capital already in October. This was reported by the "Minsk-Novosti" agency.
According to the official, festivals of national cultures in the center of Minsk are a traditional practice. The Georgian Cultural and Educational Society plans to hold "Tbilisoba" on October 3. The possible format of the event is currently being discussed, but, as Luchyna noted, the festival is likely to take place.
Minsk's "Tbilisoba" used to be one of the most massive city holidays. Events dedicated to Georgia included concerts, various cultural activities, and food courts, gathering tens of thousands of people in the city center.
The festival usually took place in August-September in Freedom Square and other venues of the Upper City. The last, fifth Minsk "Tbilisoba" festival, took place in 2019.
The name "Tbilisoba" comes from the eponymous harvest festival in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, which is traditionally celebrated on the first weekend of October.
