Andrej Dapkiunas, Belarus' permanent representative to the United Nations, and his counterpart from the Solomon Islands, Colin Beck, on September 10 signed a joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The communique reaffirms the parties' intention to develop and strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of equality, mutual respect of state sovereignty, being guided by the goals and principles of the UN Charter and the standards of international law, says the press office of the Belarusian foreign ministry.
According to the press office, Messrs. Dapkiunas and Beck noted the need to develop bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation in the international arena, including through contact between the two countries' permanent missions to the United Nations.
The Solomon Islands is a sovereign state in Oceania, east of Papua New Guinea, which consists of nearly 1000 islands. It covers a land mass of 11,000 square miles and has a population of 523,000. The capital, Honiara, is located on the island of Guadalcanal.
