On the afternoon of April 2, under the bridge over the Berezina River, schoolchildren stumbled upon a horrific discovery — the bloodied body of a man.

An investigative-operational group and employees of the forensic department of the Investigative Committee for the Mogilev region arrived at the scene. All physical evidence pointed to a criminal act – a criminal case was opened for the murder of a 51-year-old Babruisk resident. Thanks to CCTV cameras, police managed to track down two 16-year-old local residents who committed the brutal massacre, reports the State Committee of Forensic Expertise.
On the evening of March 31, two friends — college students — came here to practice knife sparring. At a certain moment, their attention was drawn to a man under the bridge. Approaching closer, they realized he was a substance abuser.
One of the guys suggested to the other that they deal with the man and pulled a pocket knife from his clothing. The teenagers inflicted several knife wounds on the victim, beat him, and then left him and walked away. Along the way, they got rid of their knives by throwing them into the river. After that, they went home and, as if nothing had happened, attended classes the next day.
One of the accused fully admitted guilt and repented, while the other denied his involvement during the investigation and in court. The boys had never had problems with the law. They had average academic performance and led a healthy lifestyle.
They are characterized positively by classmates, fellow students, and teachers. The State Committee of Forensic Expertise conducted a number of forensic examinations in this case. According to the results of the forensic medical examination, multiple stab and cut wounds were found on the deceased's body in the right half of the chest, neck, and head with damage to internal organs, a puncture fracture of the right parietal bone, a cut wound on the finger of the right hand, which could have been formed as a result of at least 19 traumatic impacts. The immediate cause of death was massive blood loss.

Forensic experts also established that biological material with blood, found in stains on the clothes and shoes of one of the accused, most likely belongs to the victim. The shoe print found during the inspection of the crime scene was left by a sneaker.
Forensic psychiatric examinations were conducted on the accused. According to the experts' conclusions, during the period of the imputed act, the teenagers, due to their mental state, were capable of understanding the factual nature and public danger of their actions and controlling them, including fully understanding the significance of their deeds.
Based on the evidence collected in the case, the 16-year-old residents of Babruisk were charged under clauses 6, 13, 15 of part 2 of article 139 (intentional unlawful deprivation of another person's life by a group of persons out of hooliganistic motives, committed with particular cruelty). The judicial board for criminal cases of the Mogilev Regional Court sentenced them to imprisonment for 10 and 9 years, to be served in an educational colony.
The court's verdict has not entered into legal force and may be appealed or challenged.
