While people were freezing in Christmas Europe, the temperature in Iceland rose to 20 degrees
During Christmas, when many Europeans were bundling up in scarves and heavy coats, the thermometer on the northern island suddenly showed summer values. In East Icelandic Seyðisfjörður on December 24 around 11 PM local time it was 19.8°C, and in Bakkafjörður — 19.7°C, Bild writes .

This is a new December record for Iceland. The previous one was recorded on December 2, 2019, in Kvískerjar in the southeast, when the temperature also rose to 19.7°C.
Birgir Örn Hólmgeirsson from the Icelandic Meteorological Office explained how this winter miracle could have happened. A powerful high-pressure system to the east of Iceland directed moist and unusually warm air of tropical origin towards the island. Strong winds near the mountains created a powerful downdraft, which warmed the area to record values.
Meanwhile, in other areas of Iceland on Christmas Eve, storm warnings were issued, and heavy rains fell.
