"Given the Soviet reality, independent journalists need to remember that special services work everywhere. Also abroad. This is under the guise of friendship, company. You go for a beer with someone for five years, and then it turns out that this is a person who [works for special services]," — Siarhei Padsasonny states.
The journalist recalled an incident that happened to him while he was still living and working in Belarus.
"A person was sent to me, specifically, with the hope that since I am gay, I might be 'drawn in', be attracted to a handsome man," — Padsasonny recalls with a smile, adding that he understood "the game with this person."
According to Siarhei, the special services sent his former student, who offered to meet, ostensibly because he wanted to continue his studies and ask for advice.
As Padsasonny explains, he never refuses help to his students, both current and former: "If they ask for something, I always write recommendations for them to get somewhere, give advice, and so on."
He also met with this young man. However, as the man states, "it looked completely different." "It was very unpleasant."
Siarhei Padsasonny was born in 1981. He studied at a rural school in Buda-Kashalyova District. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Gomel State University, completed postgraduate studies at the same faculty, and also graduated from the Faculty of Psychology of GSU. He worked as a teacher of Russian, Belarusian language and literature. From 2004 to 2007, he was a lecturer in Russian philology at Gomel Pedagogical University. From 2007 to 2025, he worked for "Belsat". He is a researcher of Fyodor Dostoevsky's works.
