"Didn't recognize her child." In Gomel, stray dogs bit an 11-year-old girl
On May 8, in Gomel, stray dogs attacked an 11-year-old girl. "They bit her all over: legs, arms, back, head. When I saw my daughter in intensive care, I didn't recognize her," said her mother Yulia. A motorcyclist, who happened to be nearby at that moment, was able to drive the dogs away from the schoolgirl. The chairman of the Gomel City Executive Committee officially reported on the incident and assured that the city's relevant services would intensify work on catching stray animals. The "Onliner" publication reported what is known at the moment.

"Didn't recognize her child"
The family of the injured girl lives in the Shvedskaya Gorka microdistrict. This is a relatively new area, adjacent to the Sozh River and a forest park zone.

On the afternoon of May 8, according to Yulia, her daughter was playing with her friends. Around four o'clock in the afternoon, a stranger called the woman from her daughter's phone.
"Just don't worry, he said, your daughter has been bitten by dogs," Yulia recalls with a trembling voice. "I immediately rushed there..."
The girl's father was the first to arrive at the scene. His car was parked right under the house: he works as a taxi driver and had stopped by for lunch.
"My husband arrived when our daughter, covered in blood, was being carried on a blanket to the ambulance. At the hospital, she was immediately sent to the operating table, and then to intensive care."
In the first few days, according to Yulia, her daughter Lidiya remembered almost nothing.

"When I entered the intensive care unit, I simply didn't recognize my child. She was all bandaged, in a mask, covered in a bunch of sensors. There were bites all over her body, especially her legs were damaged. The only thing that was spared was her face: Lida covered it with her hands until the very last moment."
When the girl recovered, she said that she was playing with three friends that day. Around four o'clock in the afternoon, Lidiya said goodbye to her friends and headed home. She had to walk along a path in a forest belt. According to her mother, it's a fairly crowded place: locals walk here, and people barbecue.

"On the way, Lida saw four large dogs and got scared. She has a panic fear of them, and when she sees them, she always either hides behind me or crosses to the other side of the street. But at that moment, there was no one nearby, and my daughter, scared, stumbled and fell. The dogs attacked her and wouldn't let her get up, even though she tried."
According to Yulia, all Lida could do was bury her face in the ground and cover her head with her hands.
"And then they just started tearing at her. There were many bites all over her body, including bruises, wounds, and scratches from claws."

Her friends ran to the girl's screams and called for help from a motorcyclist who was passing nearby.
"His garage is in the area of Penyazkova Street. Alexander, as we later found out, was driving home from there but remembered that he had forgotten (or lost) his phone and decided to go back," says Yulia. "And then her three friends ran out onto the road and shouted: 'Please help, there's a girl: dogs attacked her.' He ran to my daughter, chased the dogs away, and called me and the ambulance from her phone."
Today, Lidiya is scheduled to be transferred from intensive care to a regular ward.
"We are very worried about how she will cope with all this pain and stress," says Yulia. "The doctor said that in intensive care, my daughter touched her wounds, shook her head, and quietly said: 'Oh...'"
Motorcyclist who saved the girl: "I saw those dogs yesterday"
The guy who saved Lidiya is named Alexander. He was driving through the forest belt when he heard a child's cries, but at first, he didn't pay attention to them.
"I stopped when her friends ran out and started shouting to turn right. That helped me orient myself. When I arrived, the girl was lying on the ground face down, with two dogs near her. I noticed the third one later — it stayed nearby."
