President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine cannot simply give up its territories as part of a peaceful settlement of the war with Russia, as this contradicts Ukrainian legislation, public opinion, and the real situation on the ground. He stated this in an interview with Fox News, writes "Suspilne".

"We cannot simply leave our territories. This is outside our law. It's not just about the law — people live there, our army is there."

Zelenskyy noted that about 300,000 people live in these territories, many of whom have suffered from military actions. According to him, hundreds of people have been injured, and dozens have died, so the issue of territories cannot be considered formally or exclusively politically.

He also confirmed that the 20-point peace plan is about 90% agreed upon. Only two points remain unresolved, of which the territorial issue is key.

"When I said 90%, that's true. There's only one main issue where we have different views — that's the territories. And these disagreements are not with the Americans, but with the Russians."

He added that the United States understands the positions of the parties and is trying to find compromise solutions. According to the president, Ukraine has demonstrated steps aimed at promoting the peace process over the last month.

Commenting on the possibility of a referendum on territories, Zelenskyy stated that such a step would not yield a positive result and would not be supported by Ukrainian society.

"Everyone wants peace, but not at any cost. A referendum on giving up territories would not be positive for Ukraine."

Zelenskyy also noted that if the peace plan were approved, it would be a major political success for US President Donald Trump, as the negotiation process is happening under his leadership.

Zelenskyy also reacted to the words of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, conveyed by Trump, that Putin allegedly "wants to see Ukraine successful." According to Zelenskyy, Putin is thus trying to avoid American sanctions.
