Rosgvardiya employees died during an avalanche in Kabardino-Balkaria, but not special forces personnel
Among the alpinists who died after an avalanche on September 6 in the Bezengi Gorge in Kabardino-Balkaria were employees of Rosgvardiya, confirmed the agency itself.
Earlier, Telegram channels close to security forces reported that the deceased were servicemen of the "Vityaz" Special Purpose Center. Rosgvardiya, however, refutes this information and states that the deceased did not serve in "Vityaz".
The security forces were conducting training camps in the mountains together with 70-year-old Albert Izotov, who had been involved in mountain training for servicemen for many years. He also died. This was reported by his wife, Olga.
The avalanche covered a group of 33 alpinists. 12 people died, six more injured were taken to hospitals, and ten people were able to descend on their own. The fate of five more people is still unknown.
Rescue operations are complicated by the dangerous terrain and the risk of repeated collapse of the snow-ice mass.
